An unidentified elderly man was killed after being run over by a lorry reversing onto the Vanagaram-Poonamallee service road here on Friday night. The Maduravoyal Traffic Investigation Wing police arrested the driver and registered a case.
The police said the victim, who was around 65 years old, was seated by the roadside near a Tasmac outlet on the service lane when the incident occurred. The lorry driver, who was heading to Poonamallee, was reversing the vehicle onto the Vanagaram-Poonamallee service road when the rear left wheel ran over the elderly man.
