Local leaders in Kabale Municipality have called for the expansion of free Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centers across the region to boost research and innovation among students in tertiary institutions and secondary schools.
The leaders made the appeal on Tuesday during the official commissioning of a multi-million-shilling digital community center at Kabale Public Library. Established by American Tower Corporation-Uganda (ATC-Uganda) in partnership with the National Library of Uganda, the hub provides free computer literacy training, internet access, and digital tools to community members regardless of age or background.
Kabale Municipality hosts four universities, five tertiary institutions, and several primary and secondary schools, creating a high demand for digital infrastructure. Speaking at the launch, the Principal Assistant Town Clerk for Southern Division, Mr Hassan Rwamango, commended the initiative but urged investors to scale up services to accommodate the rising demand across all three divisions of the municipality.
