Local floods and storms possible Saturday in Latvia
Latvian authorities have issued weather warnings for Saturday as a powerful cyclone approaches the Baltic states. The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall and high winds, potentially causing flooding and infrastructure damage, particularly along the coast of the Gulf of Riga.

On Saturday morning, the sky will begin to cloud over; it will start to rain in the early morning, but in the late afternoon the rain will intensify, and the wind will also become stronger. Photo: LVĢMC Storm warning 22-23/08/2026 The heaviest rainfall is expected in the central and western parts of the country, where in some places the rain will continue uninterrupted for up to 12 hours or more; at times there will be heavy downpours, and thunderstorms are also possible. Total rainfall across most of Latvia will be 20–40 millimetres, but in some areas of Zemgale, western Vidzeme and Kurzeme it will reach 50–80 millimetres, thus equalling the entire month’s average rainfall within a single day.
