Liverpool news: Virgil van Dijk transfer question emerges as World Cup star 'chooses Arsenal'

Liverpool's transfer activity has somewhat quelled since the signing of Victor Munoz last month. Andoni Iraola's side moved quickly to secure the Spanish winger from Osasuna for £34.5million. Defender Jeremy Jacquet has also officially joined the Reds , after signing in January from Rennes for a deal worth around £60m but they've been quiet in recent weeks. Since the start of the transfer window, talk has centred around targets such as Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola. Diomande has dealt Liverpool their first blow after supposedly electing to join Paris Saint-Germain instead. Today's news sees another potential target supposedly choose Liverpool's Premier League rivals, Arsenal, instead. Elsewhere, a shocking development around Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has surfaced. Liverpool are willing to sell Virgil van Dijk in the summer transfer window, according to reports from TEAMtalk . The Reds captain has become one of the best defenders in modern history after making a £75m move from Southampton in January 2018. The Dutchman is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer of 2027 and there have been growing rumours that clubs in Turkey , such as Galatasaray, are interested in his signature. However, new Reds boss Iraola is not pushing for the defender's exit. TEAMtalk has also reported that former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made Van Dijk a primary target for his new club, Milan. The Dutch international has been a transformative signing at Anfield. He has helped Liverpool win two Premier League titles, the Champions League in 2019, and many other domestic trophies. Van Dijk has also played in two other European Cup finals with the Reds, losing both to Real Madrid . Liverpool's chances of landing Bradley Barcola may have been hit, with the player reportedly favouring a move to Arsenal . The Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele claims the Reds are simply not seen as glamorous a proposition this year as last when they were Premier League champions. Speaking on the Anfield Index podcast , Steele said: “I do think he probably will end up leaving PSG . He’s got a decision to make and he might prefer Arsenal. He’s probably looking at [Mikel] Arteta, and he might want to live in the capital city of London.” The reporter added that Liverpool have carried out groundwork on Barcola, but, as with Diomande, that may still not land them the winger. PSG are said to be eager to keep Barcola, with a price tag of around £116m reportedly set. Steele added that the European champions will be able to demand even more money should France go on to win the World Cup, a prospect that looks likely at present. He added: “It’s going to be very, very hard for Liverpool to get Barcola,” admitting that the Reds have lost out on their top targets so far.
