Live updates: Bitcoin slides from nearly $80,000 as Senate votes on Clarity Act

Bitcoin has slid from nearly $80,000, while other cryptocurrencies show mixed movements, ahead of a U.S. Senate procedural vote on the Clarity Act. This bill proposes dividing digital asset oversight between the SEC and CFTC, though an analyst suggests its immediate outcome may be less impactful than traders believe.
Why it matters
The Clarity Act could significantly reshape the regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies in the U.S., impacting market stability, innovation, and the operational environment for crypto firms, with potential global ripple effects.
XRP was the standout at more than 2% higher to $1.41, with zcash up nearly 3% to about $1,149. Ether, BNB, tron, hyperliquid's HYPE and dogecoin all slipped by less than 1%, and solana was flat at just above $101. Over seven days dogecoin is down 7%, HYPE 5% and BNB 3%.
