In the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Strait in Ramanathapuram district, rare marine life such as dolphins, dugongs, sharks, and whales live in large numbers.
Currently, instances of these creatures washing ashore dead — due to natural weather changes in the sea, accidents, and getting trapped in prohibited nets — have been increasing.
Meanwhile, on Thursday near Rameswaram in Dhanushkodi, a dolphin was found struggling on the shore. Fishermen from the area who spotted it immediately informed the Forest Department officials.
