The first time I came to Klaipeda, I arrived by train. And honestly, I expected nothing more than a city by the sea. You know the type: a few ships, seagulls, perhaps someone in a striped sailor shirt.
But the moment I stepped off the train, something very strange happened.
No, no - not the "fresh air" every city describes in its tourism adverts. I smelled sea salt, wind, and some dangerous urge to buy linen clothes and never leave cafe terraces again.
Then I heard a rustling sound. And no, the sea was definitely not standing by the platform waiting for me like in a film. But somehow the sound was already in the air. It felt as though Klaipeda itself were whispering: "Well then, you made it. Now slow down a little."
