List of governorship, state Assembly candidates for display on Saturday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to display the list of candidates of the 22 political parties for the February 6, 2027 governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections on Saturday. Final list of Presidential and National Assembly candidates is expected to be ready on September 12. The governorship election will take place in 28 states of the federation, and that of the state Houses of Assembly in the 36 states of the federation. IRI urges INEC to retest BVAS, IReV ahead of 2027 polls The registered political parties are expected to present fresh candidates for the election in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kwara and Nasarawa states, as the tenure of the governors will expire in May 2027. INEC expects parties that have yet to upload names of their candidates for the Presidential and National Assembly elections to do so on Saturday. They had August 22 as the deadline for their candidates to withdraw from the contest in line with the provisions of section 31 of the 2026 Electoral Act. Section 31 states that “a candidate may withdraw his candidature by notice in writing signed by him together with an affidavit delivered personally by the candidate to the political party that nominated him for the elections and the political party shall convey such withdrawal and the affidavit to the commission not later than 90 days to the election.” --> --> TAGS: Inec
