At one point in Always Lalisa — which is set to premiere soon at the Toronto International Film Festival — the Thai performer opened up about the restrictions K-pop culture places on idols when it comes to romance. “In K-pop culture, we can't date,” she said, according to a report by Toronto Star published Thursday (Sept. 3). "If you're seeing someone and you get caught by paparazzi, your popularity drops.”
“When I was younger, I had a few relationships, but we had to hide when we're dating,” she continued. “I didn't want my dating to be the thing that hurts BLACKPINK’s popularity."
