The 77-year-old was taken to a hospital in St Louis, Missouri, after a weekend show in the city.
Video from the concert shows Richie performing his 1983 hit All Night Long (All Night) when, about a minute into the song, he signalled to a crew member for a stool, TMZ reported . He remained seated for the rest of the six-minute performance.
Richie then sought medical attention after the show and was admitted to intensive care. The outlet said doctors were treating him for suspected dehydration and he hoped to be discharged within the next 24 hours.
The health concern follows a separate incident two months ago that concerned fans when Richie was forced to leave a concert before completing his set.
