Lightning kills youth in Manamadurai

A youth has died after being struck by lightning at Manamadurai in Sivaganga district.

Police said numerous shoppers walked across the Vaigai riverbed to purchase vegetables at the weekly market in Manamadurai on Thursday, when a sudden downpour began. A lightning struck Maveeran, 29, from Seykallathur Samathuvapuram, killing him instantly.

Rakku, 50, from Vellalar Street, Manamadurai, was injured. She was admitted to Manamadurai Government Hospital. She was later referred to Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

Manamadurai police are investigating the matter.
