Library blends festival traditions with AI
The Pattathanam Kalavedi Library hosted a virtual Onam festival event that integrated AI tools to encourage youth participation in traditional cultural activities. Participants used ChatGPT to generate designs for digital flower carpets and posters, blending heritage with modern technology.

Pattathanam Kalavedi Library organised a virtual Onam event titled “Digital Onam – 2026,” leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to conduct interactive competitions including virtual pookkalam (flower carpet) design and poster creation. Held under the motto “Read, Think, Create AI,” the initiative was conducted in collaboration with the UKF College of Engineering and Technology, Paripally.
The event, hosted on the library premises, was open to participants under 20 years of age. Competitions were structured across three categories: digital athapookkalam, poster design, and “Onavattom,” an event focused on generating traditional Onam-themed home and garden visuals using technology. Participants created their entries by generating precise prompts on their mobile phones using ChatGPT.
