LG Display has unveiled a new OLED manufacturing technology called FLiPP , which stands for FMM-Less Innovative Pixel Patterning . The new technology brings several improvements compared to the traditional FMM, or Fine Metal Mask, technique in producing RGB OLED displays. As per the company, the new technology brings superior brightness compared to FMM and also increases the panel lifespan significantly.
Unlike conventional OLED production, which uses extremely fine metal to selectively deposit red, green, and blue organic materials, the new technique uses a patterning process based on photolithography. The process involves coating the RGB materials sequentially, followed by precise positioning, and then using a precision ultraviolet light to remove unnecessary areas during the pixel-patterning process.
