Left organisations demand strict action in high profile POCSO case

Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front (TNUEF), and the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), carried out a protest here on Friday demanding an unsparing, strict legal action against all individuals implicated in the child abuse allegations.

The protest drew sharp focus on the high-profile Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case involving Gem Granites founder R. Veeramani.

AIDWA district secretary V. Jenniammal noted that the allegations against the granite industrialist first surfaced in late 2025, lamenting that early administrative laxity and police inaction allowed the gravity of the situation to escalate.

The protesters stressed that the law must apply impartially, demanding that regardless of whether the accused holds immense economic power as industrialists or high-level political backing, they must face severe legal consequences.
