Learn to shun hate, stop vote manipulations: Sibal's swipe at PM

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent comments about his desire to keep learning. Sibal urged the PM to focus on addressing hate, vote manipulation, and democratic fundamentals instead.
Why it matters
The exchange reflects the ongoing political tension between the ruling government and the opposition regarding the state of Indian democracy.
Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Thursday (October 8, 2026) took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks that he wishes his power to learn does not wane, and said, "Let us learn" to shun hate, stop vote manipulation, and respect the fundamentals of democracy.
Mr. Sibal's attack on the PM came a day after Mr. Modi addressed the 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha' to mark a quarter-century as a head of government.
"Even today, I consider myself a student. I try to learn something new each day. That is why today, I prayed to God that my power to learn does not wane," Mr. Modi had said.
