The Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) is set to launch a protest against what it accused as the continuing neglect of the Kochi Corporation in ensuring the functioning of streetlights, while allowing companies entrusted with their operation and maintenance to take advantage of advertisements.

At the last meeting of the Corporation council held on September 10, the LDF had raised the matter, specifically pointing out streetlights remaining shut on Venduruthy Bridge, Alexander Parambithara Bridge, parts of the Kundannoor Bridge within Corporation limits, and the M.G. Road. Responding to the grievances, Mayor V.K. Minimol directed Corporation officials to remove advertisement boards from streetlights that remain non-operational with immediate effect.
