The High Court sitting in Iganga has sentenced eight men to death for their involvement in the mob violence that left two fishermen dead in Namayingo District.

Presiding over the session on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Justice David Batema found the eight accused persons guilty on two counts of murder following compelling evidence presented by the prosecution. Those convicted and handed the capital sentence are Odongo Misaki, Karoli Lwanga, Musoke Yakuti, Kabwiso Mairadi, Talisuna Muzaham, Wandera Karim, Wasire Pius, and Latifu Nyanga.

Court heard that on August 19, 2024, at Bukewa Central Village, Bukewa Parish, Buhemba Sub-county in Namayingo District, the group, acting alongside others still at large, unlawfully caused the death of Robert Bagume and Moses Okech.
