Lavanya murder accused remanded to police custody
A 22-year-old man has been remanded to police custody following the public murder of a 21-year-old woman in Bantwal. The suspect, who had previously attempted suicide, was arrested after being discharged from the hospital.

The Bantwal Town police on Tuesday, took custody of the 22-year-old Chethan, who is accused of hacking 21-year-old Lavanya to death on July 16 at B. C. Road KSRTC Bus Stand.
Soon after the incident, the police traced him and he was found to have consumed a poisonous substance. He was admitted to Government Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru. Following his discharge on Tuesday, the police arrested him for murder and produced before the jurisdictional magistrate. The court granted request of police to keep Chethan in police custody for four days and further examine him.
