Landowner, residents clash over road and borehole in Wakiso

Residents of Katakke Village in Wakiso District are protesting a land dispute involving a neighbor who has blocked a long-standing community road and destroyed a public borehole. The community is calling for government intervention to restore access to these essential resources.
Why it matters
This case highlights common land tenure and community resource access disputes that frequently impact rural development and social cohesion.
Residents of Katakke Village in Namayumba Sub-county, Wakiso District, have appealed to the government to intervene in a land dispute in which they accuse a fellow resident of blocking a community road and destroying a borehole they say they have used for years.
The residents accuse Mr Fredrick Wanyama, who they say bought land in the area in 2012, of turning against the community after settling there.
They say both the road and borehole were accessible to the community before Mr Wanyama acquired the land.
Mr Robert Bbosa, a resident, said the facilities had existed for years before Mr Wanyama settled in the area.
“This borehole was donated by well-wishers in 2008, before that man came, but he is becoming a problem. He is forcefully grabbing people’s land,” he said.
