Why it matters
The statement addresses concerns regarding infrastructure development and property rights, clarifying the legal requirements for state-led land acquisition.
Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy has said that any land acquisition being undertaken in the name of the proposed Hyderabad-Chennai, Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Pune high-speed rail corridors without an official requisition from the Railways is illegal.
In a post on social media after meeting Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi, Mr. Kishan Reddy said the Railway Minister had clarified that no requisition for land acquisition had been sent to the respective State governments for the three corridors.
Mr. Vaishnaw also informed him that alignment studies for all three proposed high-speed rail corridors were under way. The details would be shared with the respective State governments and farmers once the alignments were finalised, Mr. Kishan Reddy said.
