Lamar Jackson to have thumb surgery, could be out for season

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is set to undergo surgery on his right thumb following an injury sustained against the Buffalo Bills. The procedure will place him on injured reserve, with the team fearing he may miss the remainder of the season.
Why it matters
The loss of a star player significantly impacts the Ravens' competitive standing and playoff prospects for the current NFL season.
The Ravens got Lamar Jackson back from an ankle injury on Sunday, but quickly lost him to another injury against the Bills.
It may be quite a while before he is back in the lineup. Head coach Jesse Minter told reporters after the game that Jackson will have surgery on his injured right thumb and that he will go on injured reserve.
That would mean an absence of at least four games, but Minter said that there is fear that the injury will end Jackson’s season.
Tyler Huntley replaced Jackson, but left with a toe injury and rookie Joe Fagnano had to play the rest of the game. The Ravens play again on Thursday and that could leave Fagnano to make his first NFL start against the Jaguars.
