Lakshadweep becomes 100% literate Union Territory

Lakshadweep has been declared a 100% literate Union Territory following the successful completion of the ULLAS literacy program. The achievement involved identifying and educating over 1,000 non-literate adults through intensive assessment drives.
Why it matters
Achieving full literacy is a significant milestone for social development and human capital in the Union Territory.
Lakshadweep was declared a 100% literate Union Territory on Sunday (October 12). The declaration was made by Administrator Praful Patel, marking the achievement of full literacy status under the ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram, according to a communication.
According to the Department of Education, an initial survey identified 1,113 adult non-literates across the islands. Intensive teaching and assessment drives were subsequently undertaken to equip the identified learners with foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
The department claimed that all eligible learners had successfully cleared the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT), enabling Lakshadweep to attain full literacy status under ULLAS, a Centrally sponsored scheme.
