Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk warns of fresh protest if detained people not released in Delhi

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Indian government to release detained protesters in New Delhi. He warned that he would initiate a hunger strike or foot march if the authorities do not end the arrests and address the underlying issues.
Why it matters
This situation reflects ongoing civil unrest and tensions regarding democratic rights and protest freedoms in the Indian capital.
Climate activist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk on Saturday warned of launching a peaceful protest in case the authorities fail to release detained youth in New Delhi.
“I hope those arrested will be released soon. I saw youth, journalists and even Members of Parliament being detained since the morning. I will be compelled to consider fast or foot march if they are not released by tomorrow,” said Mr. Wangchuk.
In a video post on social media, Mr. Wangchuk said he expected the biggest democracy to allow peaceful protests. “I strongly condemn the undeclared emergency. I urge the government to end these arrests and resolve issues,” said Mr. Wangchuk.
