A 22-year-old labourer died after accidentally slipping and falling from the tower of a temple while decorating it with electric lights ahead of the last Saturday of Shravana month in Gudibande town of Chikkaballapur district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Rahmath, a resident of Bettada Kelagina Pete of Gudibande town.

The incident occurred at the historic Venkataramana Swamy Temple on Sante Beedi, where arrangements were being made for a special programme marking Shravana Saturday. The temple trust had entrusted the electrical decoration work to Rahmath.

After completing the lighting around the temple, Rahmath climbed the temple tower to install the remaining lights. While carrying out the final stage of the work, he reportedly lost his footing and fell from the tower.

Locals rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was declared brought dead.
