La Beach demolition: Committee to determine payout - Deputy Minister tells Local Govt C'ttee

A committee is being formed to determine compensation for businesses and property owners affected by the demolition of the La Pleasure Beach in Ghana. The committee will include government officials, local assembly members, and traditional authorities.
Why it matters
This process is essential for addressing the economic impact on displaced business owners and ensuring accountability in local government urban planning.
A committee will be constituted early next week to determine appropriate compensation for persons whose businesses and property were affected by the recent demolition of the La Pleasure Beach.
The committee will be made up of representatives of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, traditional authorities, management of the affected beaches and the Member of Parliament for the area, Naa Odoley Sowah.
Mrs Sowah, who is also the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, disclosed this when she appeared before the Committee on Local Government and Decentralisation in Parliament yesterday.
She said data had already been gathered on persons displaced by the exercise and their circumstances would be assessed to determine the form of compensation to be provided.
