Residents of Kuruvinatham village panchayat, accompanied by their wards, on Monday petitioned the Collector, seeking the appointment of a permanent secondary grade teacher at the panchayat union primary school in their village.
The petition said the only teacher at the school was on leave without pay since November 2022. With only the headmaster to handle the classes, the quality of education and student strength had declined.
The residents said they had submitted petitions twice to the School Education Department and a substitute teacher was deputed from another school. However, the substitute teacher, who was reportedly suffering from health issues, was unable to teach the students properly.
