Kunene wildfire extinguished as ministry urges greater fire vigilance

THE Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism has extinguished a wildfire in the Khorixas area of the Kunene Region, while urging the public to exercise greater caution to help prevent fire-related incidents.
The ministry confirmed that staff brought the Khorixas wildfire under control on Tuesday morning following several days of firefighting operations.
According to the ministry, wildfires have so far affected 19,353 hectares of land in the Kunene Region this year.
The ministry appealed to the public to handle fire responsibly, cooperate with officials during firefighting operations and take precautionary measures to reduce the risk of wildfires and related losses.
The latest development follows the successful containment of another major wildfire in the Zambezi Region earlier this week.
