KSHEC shelves permanent HQ project; returns leased land to KSSTM

The Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) has abandoned the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government’s ‘Unnatha Vidyabhavan’ project to establish a permanent headquarters for the council in the State capital.

The present council has instead taken over an existing heritage building on the Kerala State Science and Technology Museum (KSSTM) campus for its headquarters. The move has drawn criticism from the previous administration, which has warned that the “retrograde decision” could affect the council’s future prospects.

The State government has decided to revoke a revenue order leasing 48.8 cents of land to the KSHEC and return the plot, along with the building under construction, to the KSSTM. The decision was taken at a recent meeting convened by Higher Education Minister Roji M. John.
