The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has asked Telangana not to draw water from Srisailam reservoir for hydro-electric generation, stating that it would affect drinking water needs in the coming months due to fast depletion in water storage.
It addressed to the Telangana Government (Secretary, Irrigation Department), after the three-member committee meeting held on Friday, which failed to arrive at any conclusion on the water-sharing method in the ongoing lean water year. The letter followed a communication made to the river board by Andhra Pradesh highlighting rapid depletion of water storage in Srisailam reservoir due to “excessive drawal of water for power generation by TG-Genco” earlier on Friday.
