Koyambedu: Chennai Metro Rail’s major interchange station gets ready
Koyambedu in Chennai is set to become a major transit hub as the city integrates its phase I, II, and III Metro Rail networks. The new phase II station will feature four levels, including commercial spaces and seamless pedestrian connectivity to other lines.

Koyambedu’s Metro Rail connectivity, which was established in 2015, is set to get a massive upgrade, with stations planned for the phase II and phase III networks.
This neighbourhood boasted the earliest connectivity to the Chennai Metro Rail system, with the launch of train services for the 45-km phase I network between Koyambedu and Alandur in 2015.
In the 118.9-km phase II network, Koyambedu will be linked to corridor 5, which runs from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. In the extension planned under the phase III network, Koyambedu will be linked to Pattabiram via Avadi.
According to officials of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), a four-level phase II station is taking shape adjacent to the phase I station.
It will be opened when the stretch from Koyambedu to Chennai Trade Centre, a part of corridor 5, is completed.
