Kochi Corporation eyes flyover funds to fix battered footpaths

Hard-pressed to mobilise funds for the renovation of footpaths, the Kochi Corporation is exploring the possibility of approaching the Kerala High Court with a plea seeking a direction to Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML) to divert funds earmarked for the beautification of two flyovers towards the more pressing task of renovating footpaths.
The Corporation’s move comes in the wake of repeated directions from the High Court regarding the condition of footpaths in the city. Though the civic body has taken up the matter with CSML, there has been no positive response. According to the Corporation, around ₹12 crore has been allocated for the beautification of the Palarivattom and Vytilla flyovers.
