Kochi Corporation among communicable disease hotspots
The Kerala Health Department has identified Kochi Corporation and several neighboring local bodies as hotspots for various communicable diseases, including dengue, hepatitis A, and H1N1. Authorities are implementing an epidemic prevention action plan and increasing awareness campaigns to curb the rising infection rates observed since January 2026.

The Health department has identified the Kochi Corporation and a few neighbouring local bodies as hotspots for several communicable diseases.
As many as 83 dengue cases, 10 typhoid cases, 11 leptospirosis cases, 78 hepatitis A cases, 55 Influenza A cases, and 26 H1N1 cases were reported within the Corporation limits alone. The figures cover the period from January to June 2026.
A senior Health official said advisories had been issued urging people to remain vigilant against the spread of diseases. Programmes would also be organised for medical professionals to respond promptly to H1N1 and leptospirosis cases.
The district recorded nine deaths due to leptospirosis in July.
The other local bodies that have been reported as hotspots for multiple diseases are Kalamassery, Thrikkakkara, Thripunithura, and Kadungalloor.
