Kochi continues to grapple with acute water crisis

Different parts of Kochi have been grappling with an acute water shortage over the past several weeks. Recent pipe bursts and shutdowns at the water treatment plants at Aluva and Maradu have exacerbated the crisis. Even with the supply being restored, the tail-end areas and houses in the interiors continue to be affected.

Sankaranarayanan K.S., secretary of Mukkottil Temple Road Residents Association, Poonithura, said that over 500 families in the southern part of Poonithura, Vyttila, are struggling without water. “We started facing the issue back in 202​4, and the situation worsened after the Thammanam tank burst,” he added.
