Kneecap invite Winston Peters to New Zealand shows after low IQ weasels insult

Irish hip-hop group Kneecap has invited New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters to their upcoming shows after he publicly labeled them 'low IQ weasels.' The conflict stems from the band's support for a Green MP's comments regarding the English language.
Why it matters
The incident highlights the intersection of international pop culture, political rhetoric, and national identity debates in New Zealand.
Irish hip-hop group Kneecap have invited Foreign Minister Winston Peters to their New Zealand shows after he described them as “a bunch of low IQ weasels”.
The invitation came after the Belfast trio threw their support behind Green MP Tamatha Paul following her viral “bastard language” comments on a bill that made English an official language earlier this year.
In response, Peters took to social media platform X on Friday, calling the band “low-IQ weasels who have no idea about history”.
“We are proud of our country’s history and our foundation English language – which is now an official language thanks to NZ First,” the post read.
