KMA alert: Kenya coast to faces three months of rough seas, strong winds

The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) has warned of adverse weather and sea conditions along the Kenyan coast from September to December 2026, urging vessels, fisherfolk and coastal communities to take precautions.

The authority said the conditions could reduce visibility, posing risks to vessels and people undertaking activities at sea and along the coastline.

"The conditions may include strong winds, rough seas, high waves, heavy rainfall and reduced visibility, which pose a risk to vessels and persons undertaking activities at sea and along the coastline," KMA stated.

In a public notice, KMA advised the public to avoid venturing into the sea during periods of adverse weather and rough sea conditions.

Boat owners and operators have been urged to properly secure their vessels while underway, moored or at anchor, while passengers and crew have been advised to wear life jackets while on board.
