KIU crowned Western Region debate champions

________________ Kampala International University-Western Campus has won the Western Region inter-university debate competition. The competition, aimed at promoting academic discourse, critical thinking, and public speaking among university students, was hosted at Mbarara University on Friday. UNESCO organised the debate in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development. Retisha Nabakka from the Ministry of Education said the competition is being held at various universities in Uganda, and the top two universities from each region will represent their regions at the 2nd National Inter-University Debate Competition 2026, scheduled for September 29, 2026, at Makerere University. The competition mid-week brought together six universities across western Uganda to debate national and global issues. The universities which participated include : Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Kampala International University-Western Campus, Bishop Stuart University, Ibanda University, Mountain of the Moon and Uganda Pentecostal University.
