King Oyo: Nine days of mourning, burial and naming new monarch
The Tooro Kingdom in Uganda is preparing for the official nine-day mourning period and funeral rites for the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. Traditional protocols are being managed by the Omujwera Musuuga to ensure a proper succession and burial process.

Tooro Kingdom subjects continue to throng the Karuzika Palace in Fort Portal City to mourn Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who passed on last Thursday.
Now a week after his death, attention has turned to the traditional norms expected to guide the kingdom through mourning, burial and the selection of the king’s successor.
Yesterday, Mr Kato Rwakatale, the assistant Musuuga of Tooro Kingdom, announced that the body would be in the country on Friday.
In line with the declaration, the kingdom has issued protocols to guide the official nine days of mourning and funeral rites that will commence on Friday (tomorrow) and run up to September 12 before the burial.
