Kinahan loses final appeal, set to face trial in Ireland

The Irish Prison Service has acquired a high-security, bomb-proof vehicle to transport criminal gang leader Daniel Kinahan upon his extradition from Dubai. Kinahan, who lost his final appeal against extradition, is expected to be returned to Ireland within six weeks to face trial.
Why it matters
This highlights significant international cooperation in law enforcement and the logistical challenges of managing high-profile criminal extraditions.
The Irish Prison Service has purchased a new bomb-proof and bulletproof escort van to be used when moving criminal gang leaders, terrorists and other high-risk inmates, ahead of the arrival of Daniel Kinahan back to Ireland.
The new vehicle is expected to be used to transfer the 48-year-old to and from court when he returns to face trial at the Special Criminal Court on a charge of directing the activities of a criminal gang.
He was arrested in Dubai on 17 April as part of a bilateral agreement between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates and has been detained there since.
Mr Kinahan has lost his final appeal in Dubai and will remain in custody there until he is handed over to the gardaí, which is expected in the next six weeks.
