Barry O'Mahony Kilshannig manager Pat Murphy hailed the character and resilience of his players after they produced a stunning second-half comeback to see off St Catherine’s and secure a second county title in successive seasons at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Friday night.
Trailing 1-12 to 0-8 at the interval and still six points adrift entering the final quarter, Kilshannig looked to be facing an uphill battle against an experienced St Catherine’s side.
However, a blistering finish, sparked by Diarmuid O’Sullivan’s crucial goal, saw the Avondhu outfit storm back to claim a dramatic 1-23 to 2-19 victory in the Co-Op SuperStores Premier JHC final.
Murphy admitted there was relief and delight after watching his side overturn such a significant deficit.
“The last quarter was absolutely frantic,” he said.
