Kilkenny bakery makes history at Blas na hÉireann food awards

Arán Bakery & Bistro in Kilkenny has become the first producer to win the Supreme Champion title at the Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards twice. The bakery was recognized for its exceptional spelt sourdough bread.

Arán Bakery & Bistro has been named Supreme Champion at the Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards for the second time, making history as the first producer to ever take home the coveted title more than once.
The announcement was made at an awards ceremony this evening, as part of a four-day celebration, taking place from 1 to 4 October in Daingean Uí Chúis, Co. Kerry.
Now in their 19th year, the Blas na hÉireann awards are famed for celebrating produce from across the country. This year, over 3,000 products from every county in Ireland competed across more than 200 categories.
The most notable awards, though, are undoubtedly Supreme Champion, sponsored by Bord Bia, and Best Artisan Producer, sponsored by LEO Network.
Arán Bakery & Bistro were crowned Supreme Champion thanks to their "exceptional breads and pastries", which have "consistently impressed" the Blas na hÉireann judges.
