A child asks for one more episode before bed. The parent says yes. Ten minutes later, the child asks for another. The parent gives in again because it is late, everyone is tired and arguing feels harder than simply saying yes.The next evening, the same thing happens.For parents, these moments can look harmless. But over time, children are not only learning whether they can watch another episode. They are also learning whether rules mean what adults say they mean, whether expectations change depending on someone's mood and how much negotiation is needed before a limit disappears.This is where the idea of predictable boundaries becomes important.Child-development research does not suggest that children need parents who control every part of their lives. In fact, autonomy and age-appropriate independence are important for development.
