KGMOA, IMA condemn attempted assault on doctor in Kerala’s Attingal

The Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association’s (KGMOA) district committee has strongly condemned the incident at Attingal taluk hospital on Wednesday (July 29, 2026), wherein the duty doctor in the emergency wing was allegedly obstructed from performing his official duties by the Attingal municipal chairperson.
The KGMOA said that the doctor had been examining a 15-year-old girl who had come with her mother, complaining of assault. As the case was classified as a medico-legal case (MLC), the doctor was collecting the information required to notify the police in accordance with legal procedures.
However, the KGMOA alleged that during the course of these procedures, the municipal chairperson unnecessarily intervened in the functioning of the emergency department, obstructed the doctor’s official duties, and issued him death threats.
Demanding a comprehensive investigation into the incident, the KGMOA said that ensuring a safe working environment for health-care professionals is the responsibility of the government.
