KFON set for network upgrade, tribal connectivity expansion in Keralam

The Kerala Fibre Optic Network Limited (KFON), the Keralam government's Internet service provider, is set to go in for a technical upgrade of its existing network for reliable and uninterrupted connectivity, as well as expand its project to ensure connectivity to tribal communities. The Electronics and Information Technology Department earlier this week accorded Administrative Sanction to the proposals.

An amount of ₹7.72 crore has been allocated this year for the scheme which aims to extend broadband connectivity to tribal communities by expanding KFON's existing network infrastructure and to bridge the digital divide by providing access to Internet in remote and underserved tribal areas. The project is expected to create more opportunities for education, employment, entrepreneurship and livelihood enhancement in these areas.
