A 26-year-old man, who is a key absconding accused allegedly involved in supplying ganja from Tripura to Chennai, was arrested in Tripura in connection with a case involving the seizure of 30 kg of ganja in Chintadripet.
The accused, Sagarsil, 26, of Bishalgarh in West Tripura, was arrested by a special team from the Chintadripet police station on August 28 with the assistance of the Tripura police. He was subsequently brought to Chennai and remanded in judicial custody on Monday.
The case dates back to June 11, when a police team led by the Chintadripet inspector was conducting surveillance near May Day Park. The team arrested Akash Das, 23, a native of Agartala in Tripura, for allegedly possessing ganja for illegal sale. The police seized 30 kg of ganja and a mobile phone from him.
