Keto Diet Outperforms Others for Cardiometabolic Health during Weight Loss: Study

A new clinical trial published in Cell Metabolism suggests that a ketogenic diet may offer superior cardiometabolic health benefits compared to other diets for individuals with obesity. The study highlights that macronutrient composition impacts metabolic health independently of total weight loss.
Why it matters
This research provides evidence-based guidance for treating obesity-related metabolic diseases, potentially shifting clinical dietary recommendations.
Not all diets are created equal when it comes to reversing the metabolic damage of obesity, even when they produce the same amount of weight loss, according to a new randomized clinical trial published in the journal Cell Metabolism .

“Obesity causes a constellation of metabolic diseases, including atherogenic dyslipidemia, prediabetes, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, which are risk factors for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease,” said Dr. Samuel Klein from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and his colleagues.
“Insulin-resistant glucose metabolism in both skeletal muscle and liver is the key pathogenic driver of obesity-related metabolic diseases.”
