A novel comprehensive legislation to ensure legal guarantees to the elderly will soon be introduced in the State Assembly, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has said.

The draft of the Bill, prepared by the Department for Senior Citizens, will soon be published, he added.

He was speaking after performing the State-level inauguration of the first International Day of Older Persons celebrations organised since the Department for Senior Citizens was formed in the State capital on Thursday.

The Chief Minister said the aim of the new department was not only to provide social welfare for the elderly, but also take a giant stride towards active ageing and participation of older persons in various areas along with the focus on silver economy.
