Keralam’s Punalur municipality unveils ‘CARE’ vision document for climate resilience

Punalur municipality has introduced CARE, an ambitious climate resilience initiative aimed at building long-term environmental sustainability and transitioning the town into a carbon-neutral region, with its official vision document released by former Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac.
The ceremony was presided over by Municipal chairperson M.A. Rajagopal, who observed that overcoming complex environmental challenges requires collective community action and urged full public support for the project’s execution.
Punalur has increasingly faced severe ecological challenges due to global warming, characterized by rising summer temperatures, unpredictable microclimatic shifts, and acute water shortages during summer months. In response to these growing environmental pressures, the local body developed the CARE project to build long-term resilience through targeted, multi-sectoral intervention strategies designed to cushion the local ecosystem from future climate shocks.
