Keralam govt approves SOP for euthanasia of rabid, incurably ill stray dogs
The Kerala government has established standard operating procedures for the euthanasia of rabid or dangerous stray dogs, following a Supreme Court order. Local committees will oversee the process to ensure it is conducted humanely by qualified veterinary surgeons.

The Keralam government has approved standard operating procedures (SOP) for mercy killing of rabid, incurably ill or demonstrably dangerous stray dogs . The SOP, approved recently, relies on the Supreme Court's Order in May this year allowing euthanasia in such cases.
A stray dog management committee, which will be formed in every local body, will bear the responsibility of deciding whether mercy killing has to be done in a particular case.
