Keralam forms high-level monitoring committee to implement SC orders on stray dogs

The Keralam government has formed a high-level monitoring committee to implement various Supreme Court orders to address issues related to stray dogs. The committee, headed by the secretary of the Local-Self Governments department (LSGD), will also include the Health Department Director, State Public Health and Environment Officer and law officer of the LSGD as well as a representative of the Animal Welfare Board of India or State Animal Welfare Board.

One of the major responsibilities of the monitoring committee is to oversee the setting up of a sufficient number of shelters for stray dogs. It will also ensure that all local bodies appoint nodal officers for handling stray dog issues. Local bodies will also have a dedicated phone number for complaints and for information. Specific feeding points will also be fixed for stray dogs at different areas.
