Keralam Electricity Minister’s speech cut short by power failure
Keralam Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph experienced a power failure during his own speech at an official KSEB function. The incident occurred while he was discussing the state's ongoing energy crisis and the necessity of current power restrictions.
Why it matters
The irony of the situation underscores the severity of the power crisis in the region and the challenges officials face in managing infrastructure stability.
Keralam Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph was himself caught in the recurring power failures in the State when his speech was interrupted by a supply disruption at a function here on Friday (September 11, 2026).
The incident occurred during the KSEB Officers’ Federation meeting, forcing him to abandon his address. A video of the episode has since gone viral.
Mr. Joseph was speaking about how former Chief Minister A.K. Antony had warned him that the Electricity department was a “crown of thorns,” and how he was striving to turn it into a “floral crown,” when the power failed. Later, he told mediapersons that the disruption was not part of the scheduled restrictions but a minor failure.
